Zinc Rich Metal Primer Paint Overview

Zinc Rich Primer is a fast-drying, high-solids, low-VOC, single-pack primer containing 90% zinc. It is designed for priming blast-cleaned structural steel to achieve excellent corrosion resistance, particularly offering outstanding resistance to rust creep when the film is accidentally damaged. This primer provides protection comparable to a galvanised coating at equivalent film thicknesses.

Zinc Rich Primer is also ideal for repairing galvanised zinc-coated fabricated metalwork where the zinc layer has been damaged during cutting, welding, or construction.

Applications & Uses

• Priming structural steel and metalwork

Preparation

• Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, rust, and loose material

• Abrade or blast-clean steel for optimal adhesion and protection

• Remove dust and debris before painting

• For damaged galvanised surfaces, ensure the area is free of contaminants prior to application

Application

• Stir thoroughly before and during use

• Apply using brush, roller, or spray equipment depending on project size

• Apply thin, even coats for best coverage and durability

• Allow sufficient drying between coats (typically 2 hours)

Drying & Curing

• Touch Dry: 20 minutes

• Overcoating Time: 2 hours

• Full Cure: Allow 24 hours for maximum corrosion protection
